GMAT Exam Eligibility

The GMAT is a computer-adaptive test that assesses the candidates’ analytical writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills in standard written English. This test is taken to get admission into a graduate management program, such as MBA and Masters in Finance-related courses in top business schools across the world

Any candidate with a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institute is qualified to apply for the exam. There is no minimum or maximum academic qualification limit for the test taker to take GMAT. The GMAT examination is taken by applicants who are seeking admission to a premier MBA institute or B-school.  A major chunk of the examinees are either students in their pre-final or final year of graduation or working professionals. The test applicants are majorly undergraduates and working professionals. Applicants from 13-18 years of age need to apply with a permission letter from their parents or guardians. There are no set criteria for GMAT eligibility set by GMAC, the body conducting of GMAT for appearing for the GMAT exam. However, one should always meet the eligibility criteria set by the university/college one aspires to get into after giving the GMAT.

According to GMAC, you can register for the GMAT entrance exam upto 6 months before the Graduate Management Admission Test date or latest by 24 hours before the GMAT exam date 2022. However, the slot is not always available at the last moment. Therefore, it is suggested to book a preferred slot well before the planned exam date.

Ways for GMAT registration 2022:

  • Online
  • Phone
  • Postal mail

There is no fixed official GMAT exam date 2022. If a candidate meets the GMAT exam eligibility criteria then any date can be chosen according to the student’s convenience and availability. In case he/she needs to retake the GMAT exam they can do so after 16 days. GMAT exam can be retaken after every 16 days. Students can appear for the GMAT exam a maximum of five times a year.

Ideally, candidates are recommended to register themselves two to three months before the exam date. If they register online or by phone, they can get themselves registered as late as 24 hours before the exam date. It is safer to stick to a set schedule to prepare for the exam accordingly. We recommend students to register at the earliest available date so that they have a wide window of time to prepare.

Also, it is worth noting that the GMAT examination can now be given at a test centre or it may also be given at home, in which case it would be a proctored exam. A common query is “Should one give the GMAT exam at home or at the test centre?” There is no simple and straight answer to this as it would depend on one’s personal preference. A candidate must keep in mind that if you give it at home then the room must be free of clutter, you must have a strong and stable internet connecting and you must ensure that the power stays on throughout. Any logistical issues may result in cancellation of the score and also forfeiture of the fee. Also, the experience with a proctor watching your every move may be overwhelming. If you decide to give it at a test centre then be prepared for a few distractions. There have also been reported issues of the computer system at the centre freezing and delays in waiting time.
