SAT Exam

What is the SAT ?

The SAT is an aptitude test, meaning that it tests a person’s ability to analyze and solve problems. It focuses on English and mathematics. The current SAT, introduced in 2016, takes 3 hours to finish plus 50 minutes for the SAT with essay, and as of 2016 costs US$52.50 (up to US$101.5 outside of the United States), excluding late fees. Possible scores on the SAT range from 400 to 1600, combining test results from two 800-point sections: Mathematics and Critical reading and Writing.

Taking the SAT is the first step in finding the right college for you — the place where you can further develop your skills and pursue your passions. But SAT scores are just one of many factors that colleges consider when making their admission decisions. High school grades are also very important. In fact, the combination of high school grades and SAT scores is the best predictor of your academic success in college.

When to take the SAT Exam ?

Most students take the test during their junior or senior year of high school.

How to ace the SAT Exam ?

Firstly, find the average SAT scores for freshman at colleges to which you’re applying. You can find this information at college admissions offices or online or you can contact our counselors at EduAims. Once you are aware of the SAT scores required, take an SAT diagnostic test to establish your baseline score. Set goals that are challenging but realistic.

Secondly, Practice- This is the most important step in scoring high on the SAT. Since the length of the test is about four hours, it is quite difficult to solve all the questions unless you are well prepared. The only way you can prepare for the lengthy test is by practicing tests of similar duration in a similar setting.

Pace yourself. Move quickly (but carefully) through the easy questions (which are in the beginning), but steadily and slowly through the harder questions.

Know how to guess. If you can eliminate at least one of the answers, always guess. If you rule out answers that make no sense, you dramatically improve your chances of getting the question right. Many math questions have absurd answer choices that absolutely can never be true (negative numbers when positive are required, wrong units etc.)
